Waterproofing and Tiles

The bathroom and ensuite were a lovely shade of green on the weekend – waterproofing.  There was also a big pile of limestone tiles in the dining area.

Today I had to decide whether to have white/light or black/dark grout with the Black Velvet tiles – I chose dark (the tiler agreed, hubby wants light).  I think I’ve won that one!  The tiles have put been in place in the bathroom, toilet and laundry.  They are a bit dusty at the moment, but once grouted and cleaned up will have a sealant applied.

Cabinets underway

On Friday night hubby came home and told me I’d be happy with something at the house, but wouldn’t tell me what!  I was indeed very impressed with the delivery of cabinets sitting in the “kitchen” and the bases of the laundry cabinets in place.

About an hour after I left the cabinet maker turned up to work on the laundry cabinets, so of course I had to go back on Sunday and check out the progress.  The bench tops weren’t on but the cupboards were in, and the kitchen was cleared (the rest of the cabinets were stacked in the pantry).

Before I even had time to write this post, there was more to report.  The kitchen cabinets were laid out today – I assume so that the flooring can go in.

Floor Tiles

We have spent most of this week looking at tiles.  We don’t have a lot of tiles, but we have somehow managed to avoid thinking about them, and now it’s decision time.  We went to National Tiles last weekend and left there totally uninspired.  Given the natural materials we have in the house (bamboo, red gum and marble) we thought we’d have a look for natural tiles.  Our best friend Google led us to Edwards Tiles where we found Black Velvet limestone tiles for the laundry and bathroom floors.  The tiles can be sealed with Aqua-Seal Bronze+, a water-based no VOC natural look sealant.

Having chosen these we just had to find tiles for the bathroom shower and the ensuite floor.  We went to Metric Tile, where they had a great range of tiles, with lots of them in patterned displays to make it easy to picture how to use them.  Even so, we struggled to make a decision on the bathroom, but when we asked for a period style floor for the ensuite we made a great find.  Out the back they had the perfect tile.  It was a clearance lot and pre-dated the implementation of their computer system (almost authentic period!).
